Trail Blazers and Toyota celebrate Reading Month throughout March

PORTLAND, Ore – March is reading month, and the Portland Trail Blazers and Toyota are doing their part to encourage reading among area youth. The Trail Blazers will host a series of Read to Achieve assemblies throughout the month, beginning with Andre Miller and Jeff Pendergraph at 2:20 p.m. on Friday, March 5th at Gilbert Park Elementary School.

Gilbert Park Elementary School is located at 13132 SE Ramona St in Portland.

Read to Achieve is a national NBA Cares initiative with a strong presence in Oregon and Southwest Washington. Their materials are distributed to 70,000 students in school districts throughout the area. Students are asked to set reading goals and receive a free ticket to a Trail Blazers game when they reach their goals.

Throughout March, the Trail Blazers will be hosting various Reading Month activities, including game night reading celebrations, school assemblies and a Read to Achieve book drive.

The book drive runs now through April 30. Fans can donate new books to any Portland Metro Toyota dealership, the Trail Blazers front office or at the season ticket holder booth of the Rose Garden during Trail Blazers home games. Burger King is giving away free Whopper vouchers to fans who donate new books.

In all, nine Trail Blazers players are set to appear at five different Read to Achieve events throughout the month of March.
