Bayless sprains left ankle; questionable against Detroit
Portland Trail Blazers guard Jerryd Bayless retreated to the locker room with a sprained left ankle during the third quarter of Friday’s game against the Boston Celtics and did not return.
He is listed as questionable for Saturday’s contest versus Detroit, the Blazers said.
The second-year guard from Arizona started against the Celtics in place of Brandon Roy, who is recovering from a sprained right hamstring.
Bayless recorded 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting, dished out four assists and collected two rebounds in 19 minutes before leaving the game.
He is averaging 8.8 points and 2.3 rebounds this season.
Bayless had recorded three starts in the last four games during Roy’s absence, and has regularly been used by Blazers coach Nate McMillan as a fill-in starter when Roy has been injured this year.
Roy, who received a platelet-rich plasma infusion Friday, is expected to miss at least the next four games. Should Bayless not be able to play against Detroit, guard Rudy Fernandez will likely start in his place.
