Trump wins Clark County Kids Vote 2016

It appears Clark County could move even farther right as its younger generation grows up.

Clark County’s students who participated in Kids Vote 2016 voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump and Mike Pence for president. Kids Vote, a program organized by Fairgrounds Neighborhood Association President Bridget Schwarz, asks students to cast votes through a SurveyMonkey quiz in national and local races.

In a news release – written in Comic Sans, no less – Schwarz notes a few takeaways. Here are some of them:

  • About two-thirds of all voters were from middle school social studies classes.
  • Kids, in general, voted a straight party ticket.
  • Kids Vote participants varied from actual election results in seven cases, including president.
  • Hockinson Middle School had the highest voter turnout with 65 percent of its students voting. Its students voted in their home room classes.

Here are results in some of the key races:

President
Donald Trump, Mike Pence, Republican – 47.9 percent
Hillary Clinton, Tim Kaine – 38.3 percent
Third party – 13.7 percent

U.S. Senate
Chris Vance, Republican – 53 percent
Patty Murray, Democrat – 47 percent

U.S. Representative
Jaime Herrera Beutler, Republican – 58 percent
Jim Moeller, Democrat – 42 percent
