‘Dirty tricks’ target Dorothy Gasque campaign

Someone is messing with the Dorothy Gasque campaign. Gasque is running as a Democrat for the 3rd Congressional District seat up for grabs in 2018.

In late September, someone donated $100 to the Kris Greene  for Port of Vancouver District 1 commissioner campaign in her name.

Last week, someone placed fake Groupon ads with the campaign phone number listed as the contact.

Gasque’s campaign manager Mandalynn Harbert said she started getting calls from people at all hours.

“My biggest concern was I thought someone had made a mistake posting their ad and they weren’t getting their people they needed,” Harbert said.

But then she found the Groupon ad and realized it was intentional. The ads were removed shortly thereafter, she said.

On top of the fake ads, Harbert said someone redirected two businesses in St. Louis, Mo. to the campaign phone. So customers who tried to call the business would be rerouted to the Gasque campaign.

She said T-Mobile, their cell phone provider, can’t do anything to fix the problem. They will have to change the campaign number as a result, Harbert added.

She attributed the bizarre instances to dirty tricks as the campaign heats up.
