Another day, another misused image
Conservative political action committees are not alone in violating copyright law.
As I reported last week, an ad put out by the Congressional Leadership Fund against Carolyn Long featured images stolen from The Columbian. Shortly thereafter, a representative from the Jaime Herrera Beutler campaign pointed out a similar violation in two ads produced by the Long campaign.
Long’s campaign said they were unaware of the violation and would fix the problem immediately.
To avoid continuing to report on stolen images, I’ll make one thing clear: any photos readers might see of The Columbian’s in campaign advertising were not used with permission. Our photos can be purchased, but only for personal use.
Unfortunately, theft of property occurs regularly for us. It’s just the campaign season that makes it especially noticeable and often, the theft is more glaring. If you happen to see our images showing up where they don’t belong, feel free to contact Web Editor Amy Libby at amy.libby@columbian.com and we’ll work to get those images removed.
