“Willie, Where’s Your Noodle?”
“Willie, Where’s Your Noodle?”
Our 6 1/2-year-old chocolate lab has one major food obsession – the noodle. Although he loves meat, bread, fruit and vegetables, pasta remains his No. 1 food selection. We can always tell when he craves the noodles draining in the kitchen strainer by his frantic doggy dancing, increased levels of panting and volumes of drool dangles. I ask him, “Willie want a noodle?” His reply is “Roof, roof,” meaning yes, yes, followed by a pirouette and a couple do-si-does. He then bolts to the kitchen sink for his reward.
Last evening when Tom returned home from work, Willie greeted him for their usual doggy romp and playtime. However, Willie wasn’t interested in sharing his toys or rough housing, he knew there was a strainer of wide egg noodles draining in the kitchen sink. He barked, did a couple fast turns and led Tom directly to the pasta prize. You could almost hear the “please Dad.” Of course he received his treat and all was good in Willie’s world.
The noodle of choice is penne pasta. Although Willie loves spaghetti, egg noodles and macaroni; penne pasta gets the highest accolades. He will do most anything for a noodle. He will retrieve his ball, bring me various items, bark on command, sit and almost stay; now if only I could get him to shovel his own pooh, all would be perfect in my world!
