4A GREATER ST. HELENS LEAGUE

 

BATTLE GROUND

Coach: Guy Brown

Key players: Mekennah Lohnes, sr., mid; Carly Swanson, sr.; Cece Stafford, sr.; Hannah Dollar.

Outlook: Brown returns as the Tigers coach after a previous stint from 1996-2001. The Tigers look to improve off last year’s injury-riddled campaign. With a healthy squad, Battle Ground looks to contend for postseason berth.

CAMAS

Coach: Roland Minder

Key players: Rachel Gibson, sr., def; Mika Norrish, sr., fwd; Mason Minder, so., def; Marie Matthews, jr., gk.

Outlook: Injuries during summer play have hit the Papermakers hard, but depth has always been a strengh at Camas.

EVERGREEN

Outlook: With only two seniors, the Timberwolves are building toward the future with five freshmen on the varsity squad.

Outlook: The Titans return all but two starters to a lineup led by Sjothun, a four-year starter and all-league pick last year.

 

3A GREATER ST. HELENS LEAGUE

COLUMBIA RIVER

Coach: Filomon Afenegus

Key players: Ana Delgadillo; Charlene Burger; Emily Kleier; Easton Kawawaki; Madison Reynolds; Lindsay Hurley.

Outlook: The Chieftains return several key players from last year’s team that won the Class 3A state championship.

FORT VANCOUVER

HUDSON’S BAY

Coach: Tami Perkins

Key players: Miranda Malagon, sr., fwd; Charli Torres, sr., mid; Kat Janey, sr., mid; Nala Comstock, jr., def; Emily Matheny, fr.

Outlook: Perkins returns to coach Bay and believes the Eagles have the potential to be playoff team. Matheny leads a strong turnout of 19 freshmen to the program.

KELSO

Coach: Kemal Vejo

Key players: Mariah Roggow, jr.; mid; Loryn Musgrove, jr., def; Desiree Arocha, so., mid; Ireland Gamble, so., mid; Hunter Thomson-Terrel, so., fwd.

Outlook: The Hilanders lost seven starters from last year’s state-tournament team. But they hope to get Mickayla Mury back from a knee injury by the end of the season.

MOUNTAIN VIEW

Outlook: The Falcons look to be competitive despite a youthful lineup.

 

2A GREATER ST. HELENS LEAGUE

HOCKINSON

Coach: Zack Goldfinch

Key players: Rylee Seekins, so.; Gabby Burrell, sr.; Isabella Koenig, jr.; Alicia Stark jr.; Peyton Merringer, jr.

Outlook: The Hawks lost a couple of college-bound players from last year’s roster and only have four seniors on the roster. Yet, the Hawks are looking for another strong season and aim to challenge Mark Morris and Ridgefield for league supremacy.

MARK MORRIS

Coach: Eric Maxey

Key players: Kayla Palmer, sr.; Jenna Dukovcic, sr.; Keara Bennett, jr.; Meagan Forsman, jr.

Outlook: The Monarchs return four all-league players, making them a league contender with Ridgefield and Hockinson.

R.A. LONG

Coach: Mike Hooper

Key players: Sema Alvarado, fr., fwd; Sydney Davis, sr., def; Alize Asplund, sr., GK; Katie Morgan, jr., mid; Emma Temples, jr., mid; Kaleigh Willie, so., mid; Sami Olson, so., def; Kyle Smith, so., def.

Outlook: R.A. Long hopes lessons learned from taking hard lumps last season will result in improvement this season.

Outlook: First-year coach Ziese has six returning players as he looks to the turn the Rockets into a playoff team.

KALAMA

Key players: Jazzmine Rowland, jr., mid; Tiphanee Meyer, sr., def; Lillie Blair, sr., mid; Liz Delevante, sr., def.

Outlook: The Chinooks lost 11 players to graduation and only had 13 players on the roster. They’ll look to build around all-leaguer Rowland.

KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN

Coach: Chris Conway

Key players: Heidi Fronk, jr.; Maddie Veltkamp, so.; Ashley Schmaltz, so.; Lexi Becker, so.; Meleah Kainu, so.; Joanne Brouwer, sr.; Hannah Hutchin, sr.; Kylie Bissett, sr.; Jessica Krippner, jr.; Whitney Rouse, so.

Outlook: The Knights might lack the numbers of their league rivals, but they still expect to match last year’s third-place finish. Bissett returns from an injury.

LA CENTER

Coach: Cecilia Hagemier

Key players: Chelsea Breault, sr., fwd; Tianna Arends, sr., mid; Kelli Bergstrom, sr., def; Katyln Bigley, jr., mid; Rachel Moudy, jr., fwd; Amanda Moudy, jr., fwd; Ashley Denney, so., def; Shelby Vermeulen, so., gk; Kate Burgess, fr., def; Ellie Johnson, fr., mid.

Outlook: Hagemier takes over an experience Wildcat team with seven returning varsity players and a strong underclassmen lineup.
