Happy May the 4th… as in May the 4th be with you!  Edible Light Sabers are fun and easy.  They are wonderful for birthday parties or a movie premiere.  Supplies are minimal- a bag of pretzel rods, melting chocolate and patience.

If you’re not familiar, melting chocolate is also known as candy melts.  It can be found in any craft store and many large chain stores such as Walmart.

Edible Light Sabers

Makes about 30

Ingredients:

Directions:

Take an egg carton or card board box and cut 10 holes in the top.  They need to be wide enough to hold the pretzel rods upright while the chocolate is drying.  Set aside.

Dump 1 color of candy melts into shallow, microwave safe dish.  Melt in 30 second bursts, stirring in between.

When melted, carefully roll 3/4 of a pretzel rod into the color.  You may need to use a spoon to pour chocolate on it.  When completely covered, hold it straight down and tap gently to drip off extra melted chocolate.

Now hold the pretzel over another plate and sprinkle with the matching color.  After all, light sabers are supposed to glow.  (I have been informed they do not sparkle.  Good grief.)

Gently push it into the cardboard box standing straight up.  Chocolate will set completely in a few minutes.  Continue until you have 10 rods in the desired color.  Repeat process with other colors.

When all light sabers are dipped, cut 30 small pieces of foil to wrap around the bottom.  Finish with 2 black sharpie lines and a red dot for the power button.

Allow the Jedi knights and Sith lords in your home (or office!) to have a galactic battle.
