Thorns upset Kansas City to book place in final

Portland Thorns FC finished 3rd in the NWSL regular season.  This earned them the chance to go on the road into second place Kansas City to battle a spot in the Final.

Portland went down 2-0 in the first 25 minutes.  Then a Tobin Heath goal in the 33rd gave Thorns fans hope.  2-1 at the half.

Substitute Tiffany Weimer tied it up with a half hour left to play.

Then in the 102nd minute Allie Long put the Thorns ahead for the first time in the game.

Final Opponent?

The final relief and a hope.  If Sky Blue could beat the Western New York Flash in the 2nd semifinal, then Portland would host the final.  That contingency was short lived however when the Flash ran out 2-0 winners behind a brace from Carli Lloyd.

The final will be this Saturday August 31st at 5pm pst

Game coverage on Fox Sports 2.
