Les Schwab Tires Roundball Shootout is Sunday

Many of the top senior boys and girls basketball players from Southwest Washington are scheduled to compete Sunday in the 20th annual Les Schwab Tires Roundball Shootout, powered by Shoot 360. The event begins at 4 p.m. at Clark College

Union’s Micah Paulson, who was recently named The Columbian’s All-Region player of the year, is expected to play.

Other members of the All-Region boys team who are on the roster include: Robert Franks (Evergreen, and a Washington State recruit), Trevor Jasinsky (Camas), Nathan Hawthorne (Columbia River), Devin Johnson (Battle Ground), Marcus Lord (Skyview), Noah Prangley (Washougal), and Jordan Suell (Fort Vancouver).

Members of the All-Region girls team who are on the roster include: Jossilyn Blackman (Battle Ground), Nikki Corbett (Camas), Katie Whitten (La Center), Hannahjoy Adams (Skyview), Lindsay Asplund (Prairie), and Megan Bloom (Columbia River).

The girls game will start at 4 p.m. There will be a girls 3-point shooting contest at halftime.

The annual dunk contest will be between the girls and boys game. And there will be a boys 3-point shooting contest at halftime of their game.

A “Star of Stars” (AKA MVP) will be selected from each game. The winner will receive a $500 scholarship from Les Schwab Tires.

The girls game will be coached by Al Aldridge, current Clark women’s coach who won six state titles in his three decades as Prairie’s head coach, and Ashley Corral, former Prairie star and USC Trojan.

The boys will be coached by Warner Pacific men’s coach Jared Valentine, who was this season’s coach of the year in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, and his assistant, Garold Howe.

Tickets are $5, $3 for seniors, and $2 for students with ID. Tickets can be purchased at Shoot 360 (12001 NE 60th Way, Suite A-1, Vancouver) or at the door. (Shoot 360 is a new sponsor for the event.)
