Don’t tell the Mountain View baseball players that they weren’t supposed to be this good this soon this year. The Thunder were loaded with seniors last year. Only three players on the roster came into this year with any varsity experience. So it would not have been surprising if the Thunder had suffered through some […]
I wasn’t there to “cover” the game exactly. I was there working on a profile, a story that will run next week. But I got to see a good battle. Skyview never trailed, but Columbia River never stopped trying to come back in this non-league, same-school-district rivalry. Skyview led 2-1 after the first, and later […]

Union opened the baseball season with seven consecutive wins, including two in the 4A Greater St. Helens League. Skyview opened the baseball season as “the team to beat,” the squad with the favorite tag. Nothing has been settled yet, but Skyview has the early advantage. Alec Chaney had the biggest hit of the afternoon, and […]
Nominees for The Columbian prep athlete of the week for the week of March 18-23. Milla Benedetti and Emma Raivio, Mountain View tennis: The Thunder Invitational expanded to bring in top talent from beyond Southwest Washington, but Southwest Washington still ruled the Thunder Invitational. Benedetti and Raivio won the Flight 1 doubles title with a […]
Erik Powell is kind of a big deal right now at small-school Seton Catholic. He scored 13 goals in the first three soccer matches of the season for the Cougars — all 13 goals for the team, in fact. He is also known for his football skills. In fact, that’s what he is going to […]
Union’s Emily Rowe and Prairie’s Cori Woodward and Megan Lindsley will take part in the Washington State Girls Basketball Coaches Association All-State games on Saturday at Seattle Christian High School in SeaTac. Rowe will be play for the 4A team, coaches by Arlington’s Joe Marsh. Woodward and Lindsley will play for the 3A team, coached […]
Nominees for The Columbian prep athlete of the week for the week of March 8-17. (Yes, I know that’s longer than a week. The spring sports season started on Friday, March 8. We weren’t going to do an athlete of the week for a two-day period so we extended this first period. Forgive us!) CHLOE […]
OK, so I’ve seen two teams with new uniforms this season, and I blogged about them. Turns out, Columbia River has new unis, too. Perhaps I will see them one day. But the Chieftains just could not wait for me to come to them, so they sent me pics of their River Flow purple threads.
Got the chance to see a couple baseball teams this week. Watched Evergreen win its opener against Hudson’s Bay on Tuesday. Then interviewed some players from Heritage for an upcoming feature on the Timberwolves. Both teams look good. Especially in their new uniforms.
