Week 9 football preview: Woodland vs. Black Hills

When, where: 7 p.m. Friday at Woodland HS (non-league game).

Last meeting: Black Hills won 56-7 on Oct. 29, 2010 in Tumwater.

BLACK HILLS (3-5)

Last week: lost to Tumwater 41-13.

Notes: The Wolves were eliminated from the playoff hunt after their loss to Tumwater last week. … Black Hills has lost its last three games, all to playoff-bound teams.

Woodland (4-4)

Last week: lost to Hockinson 29-19.

Players to watch: QB Adam Shoup 71-157, 838 yards, 9 TDs; RB Cy Whitmire 132-1082 yards, 11 TDs; WR Nick Fuller 19-325 yards, 5 TDs.

Notes: Woodland clinched the No. 2 seed to the district playoffs from the 2A GSHL. … The Beavers will travel to play Friday’s North Thurston-W.F. West winner in the district playoffs next week. … A victory this week gives Woodland a winning regular-season after going 0-9 last season. … QB Adam Shoup hurt his knee last week and might not be able to play Friday.

Bottom line: Teams from the 2A Evergreen Conference have had the numbers of teams from the 2A GSHL in the past. So this is not a gimme for Woodland.

Columbian’s pick: Black Hills.
