Week 9 football preview: Ridgefield vs. Ilwaco

When, where: 7 p.m. Friday at Ilwaco HS (Class 1A Trico League game).

Last meeting: Ridgefield won 40-0 on Oct. 29, 2010 in Ridgefield.

ILWACO (3-5, 2-4)

Last week: lost to Castle Rock 34-18.

Notes: In league, Ilwaco has only managed to beat Stevenson and White Salmon — both teams are winless in league play this season. Stevenson is 1-7 overall; White Salmon 0-8. … Besides that, it has not gone well for the Fishermen. Last week’s loss to Castle Rock was Ilwaco’s closest league loss this season. … If Ilwaco wins and Castle Rock loses to Toledo, Ridgefield, Ilwaco and Castle Rock would meet Tuesday in Kalama in a three-team tiebreaker for the No. 4 best to the district playoffs.

RIDGEFIELD (5-3, 3-3)

Last week: lost to Toledo 34-21.

Players to watch: QB Gunnar Long 16-39, 265 yards, 2 TDs; RB Michael Knox 87-656 yards, 7 TDs; RB Ian Williams 73-345, 4 TDs

Notes: Ridgefield needs a win to clinch the No. 4 seed to the district playoffs and a district playoff game next week at No. 2 Montesano. … The Spudders have lost to every team above them in the standings (Kalama, Toledo, La Center) and beaten every other league game they’ve played (Castle Rock, Stevenson, White Salmon). … Ridgefield is 3-1 this season on the road.

Bottom line: Spudders look too solid to let this one get away.

Columbian’s pick: Ridgefield.
