Week 5 football preview: Fort Vancouver vs. Kelso

When, where: 7 p.m. Friday at Kiggins Bowl (3A Greater St. Helens League game)

Last meeting: Kelso won 28-20 on Oct. 1, 2010 in Kelso.

Last week: Fort Vancouver lost to Prairie 70-0; Kelso lost to Union 42-0.

Fort Vancouver (0-4, 0-1): Fort comes into this game on a 10-game losing streak dating back to last season. … The closest game the Trappers have played this season is a 27-point loss to Washougal. … QB Jacob Austin has passed for 460 yards this season. … Fort Vancouver has scored 44 total points this season.

Kelso (1-3, 1-1): It’s been a rough season offensively for the Hilanders. They have not scored more than 12 points in a game all season, and that includes their lone win. … Kelso has actually been outscored by Fort this season 44-29.

Bottom line: This is a game the Trappers could win. But they must play a clean game. Fort must make Kelso move the ball to score and not give the Hilanders a short field via turnovers. Kelso has enough solid defenders to make Fort pay for its mistakes.

Columbian’s pick: Kelso.

Fans’ pick: Kelso.
