Week 1 football preview: Camas vs. Timberline

When, where: 7 p.m. Friday at Doc Harris Stadium, Camas

Last meeting: Camas won 29-15 in Seattle in Week 1 of 2010.

Camas: Despite some key injuries down the stretch, the Papermakers had their best season in school history, reaching the 3A state quarterfinals. A 27-24 loss to Lakes left the Papermakers 11-1. Senior Tony Gennaro, who replaced injured Logan Grindy at QB during the playoffs returns. So does all-league RB Zack Marshall. … Expectations are high for Camas, which is ranked No. 6 in the Seattle Times’ preseason rankings.

Timberline: The Blazers from Lacey rebounded from a season-opening loss to Camas last year to finish 6-3 in the regular season, then beat Mountain View 29-28 to reach to the state playoffs. Timberline’s season ended with 59-14 loss to state champion Bellevue. … The Blazers’ offense is loaded with returning starters with eight. Senior James Segura-Mitchell moves from WR to QB, and all-league RB Spencer Crump is back. All-league LB Brandon Wetzel leads the defense that returners seven starters. … Timberline is a “team to watch” in the Seattle Times preseason rankings.
