Wednesday's highlights
Clint Coulter went 3 for 3 with a home runs, double and four RBI to help the Union baseball team clinch a share of the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League title with a 6-2 win over Heritage on Wednesday.
The win improved the Titans’ league record to 9-2 and moved Union 1 1/2 games ahead of second-place Skyview. Union finishes its league schedule Friday against Skyview. But because Union has won the first two meetings against the Storm, Union has clinched the No. 1 seed from the league to the bi-district tournament.
Union will play the South Puget Sound League’s No. 2 team on May 10 at Propstra Stadium in a winner-to-state game in the bi-district tournament.
Jacob Virture pitched 6 1/3 innings to earn the win for Union, which built a 5-0 lead against Heritage.
The loss put Heritage’s postseason hopes in serious jeopardy. To stay alive, Heritage must beat last-place Battle Ground today, and hope Evergreen loses to both Skyview today and Battle Ground on Friday.
Camas faces Mountain View today: Weather permitting, Camas will face Mountain View at 4 p.m. today at Mountain View in the first of a two-game series that will determine the regular season champion in the 3A GSHL. Both teams enter the series with 10-0 league records. The two teams are scheduled to play again Friday in Camas.
Boys soccer
Camas 5, Columbia River 0: Drew White scored two goals and assisted on a third as the Papermakers clinched the 3A GSHL regular-season title.
Camas improved to 12-1 overall and 10-0 in league. As the No. 1 seed from the 3A GSHL to the bi-district playoffs, Camas will host a winner-to-state match at May 14.
Union 0, Skyview 0: For the second time in two meeting, Union plays Skyview to a 0-0 draw, keeping the Titans and Storm tied atop the 4A GSHL standings with 23 points each.
However, Union (7-0-2) has earned 23 points playing one fewer match than Skyview (7-1-2), and the Titans beat Skyview in the first of the teams’ three meetings this season.
Softball
Ridgefield 5, Kalama 0: Karlee Kammer struck out 13 batters in pitching a no-hitter for the Spudders. Shannon Boyle was 2 for 4 with two RBI, and Megan Holman also was 2 for 4 for Ridgefield in support of Kammer.
