Fridays’ prep basketball playoff primer

Thirteen Clark County basketball teams are still playing basketball with dreams of advancing to next week’s opening-round games of the state tournament.

Nine of the 13 teams will advance to next week’s games by winning their next game. Of those nine teams, six can clinch berths with wins Friday.

Here’s where locals stand and what they need to do to keep their seasons alive.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Evergreen (16-5): The Plainsmen must win Friday OR Saturday to clinch a berth to state. Only losses in both games will end Evergreen’s season. The Plainsmen face Auburn at 6 p.m. Friday at Auburn HS in a winner-to-state game in the 4A bi-district tournament. The winner will face the Kentwood-Olympia winner in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Saturday at Auburn. The loser faces the Rogers-Kentlake loser at 8 p.m. Saturday at Rogers HS.

Union (15-7): The Titans must wins games Friday AND Saturday to advance. A loss either day ends Union’s season. The Titans face Federal Way at 6 p.m. Friday at Auburn Mountainview HS. The winner faces Kentwood-Olympia loser at 6:15 p.m. Saturday at Rogers HS.

Hudson’s Bay, Camas, Mountain View: All three have winner-to-state games Friday in the Class 3A bi-district tournament. However, a loss Friday means each team will need to win three loser-out games to move on.

Hudson’s Bay (17-5): The Eagles face Foss at home at 8 p.m. Friday. The winner faces the Mountain View-Decatur winner at 8:15 p.m in the bi-district semifinals. Saturday at Mount Tahoma HS. The loser meet Kelso at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Mount Tahoma.

Camas (16-6): The Papermakers meet Lakes at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Bonney Lake HS. The winner faces the Hazen-Lincoln winner at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the bi-district semifinals at Mount Tahoma. The loser meets Wilson at 11 a.m. at Mount Tahoma.

Mountain View (12-10): The Thunder face Decatur of Federal Way at 8 p.m. Friday at Bonney Lake HS. The winner faces the Hudson’s Bay-Foss winner in the bi-district semifinals at 8:15 p.m. Saturday at Mount Tahoma. The loser faces Bremerton at 12:45 p.m. Saturday at Mount Tahoma.

King’s Way Christian and Columbia Adventist: Both teams are the semifinals of the 1B district tournament. A win Saturday in the semifinals or Monday in a third-place game will advance either to the state tournament. King’s Way faces Taholah at 5 p.m. Saturday at Centralia. That game will be followed by the Columbia Adventist-Mary M. Knight game at 8 p.m.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Skyview (17-4): The Storm must win Friday OR Saturday to clinch a berth to state. Only losses in both games will end Skyview’s season. The Storm face Federal Way at 6 p.m. Friday at Rogers HS in a winner-to-state game in the 4A bi-district tournament. The winner will face the Emerald Ridge-Bellarmine winner in the semifinals at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Auburn. The loser faces the Mount Tahoma-Bethel loser at 8 p.m. Saturday at Stadium HS.

Evergreen (15-7): The Plainsmen must wins games Friday AND Saturday to advance. A loss either day ends Evergreen’s season. The Plainsmen face Todd Beamer or Federal Way at 6 p.m. Friday at Franklin Pierce HS. The winner faces Emerald Ridge-Bellarmine loser at 6:15 p.m. Saturday at Stadium HS.

Prairie (21-0): The Falcons clinch a spot to state with a win against Capital of Olympia at 6 p.m. Friday at Hudson’s Bay. A loss would mean the Falcons must win three loser-out games to advance. With a win Friday, Prairie would face the Wilson-Lakes winner in the bi-district semifinals at 8:15 p.m. Saturday at Clover Park HS. A loss would send Prairie against Mountain View at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Clover Park HS.

Mountain View (14-8): The Thunder must win three loser-out games in the 3A bi-district tournament to advance. They will face the loser of Friday’s Prairie-Capital game at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Clover Park HS.

Camas (15-10): The Papermakers must win three loser-out games in the 3A bi-district tournament to advance. They will face the loser of Friday’s Wilson-Lakes game at 2:45 p.m. Saturday at Clover Park HS.

Columbia Adventist: The Kodiaks face Mary M. Knight in the 1B district semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Centralia HS. A win sends CAA to state and into the district title game Monday against Taholah or Lake Quinault. A loss means a winner-to-state/loser-out game Monday against the Taholah-Lake Quinault loser. Monday’s games are in Montesano.
