CLASS 4A GREATER ST. HELENS LEAGUE

Battle Ground

Outlook: Coach Steve Taylor reports having a young squad with some great talent.

Heritage

Key players: Britney Sorenson, p-of, sr.; Alexis Huss, p, sr.

Outlook: Sorenson was a first-team all-league outfielder in 2008 and 2009. … Huss earned second-team all-league honors in 2009 after gaining honorable mention in 2008.

Skyview

Key players: Kristin Morgan, c, sr.; Kristen Webb, 3b, fr.; Maddie Anthony, ss, fr.

Outlook: Morgan is a four-year varsity player who will play college softball next year at Purdue. … The Storm will be light on experience this season, but coach Todd Marquiss is very high on freshmen Webb and Anthony. … Other young players will need to step up for the Storm this season.

CLASS 3A GREATER ST. HELENS LEAGUE

Camas

Outlook: Carson, Melton and Kruger are returning all-league players. … Coaches Ken Nidick and Ted Buck expect improvement from power hitter Jimenez. … Krill and sophomore Sarah Nidick will handle the pitching for the Papermakers.

Fort Vancouver

Key players: Lauren Lefebvre, ss, sr.; Sara Erager, c, jr.; Mason Smith, cf, fr.

Outlook: The Trappers, who haven’t won a game in more than three years, look for a fresh start with first-year coach Ben Jatos. Jatos has been coaching baseball for the past 20 years, so there will be learning curve for coach and players. … Jatos has had success in one area: player participation. Fort has 13 players last season and couldn’t field a JV team. This year, the Trappers have 40 players in the program and are field JV and C squad teams.

Prairie

Key players: Jessi Duncan, p, sr.; Grace Middelstadt, of, jr.; Brittany Guest, of, jr.; Chantal Paradis, 3b, jr.; Chelsea Creech, of-p, so.; Jessica McDonald, 1b, so.; Alyssa Nance, ss, so.

Outlook: The Falcons have a young, but talented lineup that will allow them to compete for the league title. … Duncan is the top pitching and one of team’s top hitters. …. Paradis provides a big bat

Outlook: The Titans bring back two college signees to the roster: Mariah Dawson and Henderson … Dawson was The Columbian’s All-Region player of the year in 2009. … Henderson is a two-team all-league pick and was All-Region last year. … Cline and Hertenstein also were first-team all-league players. … With Dawson on the mound and four all-league players in the field returns, the Titans have to favored to win the league title.

Hockinson

Outlook: The Hawks have a young roster that consists four freshmen and three sophomores. … But first-year coach Stephanie Robey sees a lot of potential in her young squad. … Team captain Flattum is the lone senior on the roster.

Mark Morris

Outlook: With four returning all-league performers, the Monarchs look to improve off their 2009 campaign … Adding to high hopes at Mark Morris are two dynamic freshmen in Majerle Reeves and Raimee Sluder. … Reeves is the daughter of the principal at crosstown rival, R.A. Long.

Ridgefield

Key players: Sydney Ferryman, of, sr.; Al James, c, sr.; Erin Bate, ss, jr.; Carley Estes, ut., fr.

Outlook: Ferryman is a first-team all-league outfielder who will also play some 1B … James, in her fourth season on varsity, will split pitching duties when she isn’t catching. … Bate was a second-team all-league pick in 2009. … The Spudders are taking aim at their third consecutive trip to the district playoffs.

CLASS 1A TRICO LEAGUE

La Center

Outlook: The Wildcats return four all-league performers in Mate, Monson, Mills and Davis. … Beyond the aforementioned players, the roster will have only one other senior. Stevenson
