Kara Patterson Is Ready For 2012

Received a note late last night from javelin thrower Kara Patterson, after she struggled in the qualifying round at the World Championships. Here’s what she wrote:

“The distances I produced in qualifying weren’t that surprising based on how this season has gone, but didn’t reflect the progress I’ve made in the past few weeks. Javelin got fun for me again when I went home to San Diego after my European meets, because I started to get my connection to the implement and feeling for the event back!

“I wish that that progress had shown through this morning, but three weeks of solid practice throws after a summer of disappointment apparently doesn’t mean that the little bit of last-minute work will hold up in a high-pressure situation like World Championships.

“I learned something about myself a long time ago; I have to be absolutely positive that I can throw the automatic qualifying distance at ANY time to be able to make it through to finals, and I’m just not there yet.

“Hopefully last year’s consistent season coupled with the motivation I’ve gained from this frustrating one will mean awesome things for 2012. I’ve had unbelievable support this year from so many people, so thank you!!”
