Which Style of Pruning Do You Prefer?

Below are pictures of two mature Upright Yews (Taxus bacatta) with different styles of pruning. The top plant has been pruned one branch at a time using my natural pruning technique. It retains its natural shape and thickness and has been pruned below the roof overhang. The bottom plant has been sheared and topped repeatedly causing the plant to grow faster and get wider on the upper part. By repeatedly pruning the same amount from top to bottom on the sides it has developed a shape the opposite of normal. Why was it arbitrarily squared off at 6 feet? It was against a wall where even a 10 foot shrub would have looked nice. Which style of pruning do you prefer?
