Our toolbox gets a new addition

Last week, the Evergreen School District locked down Frontier Middle School after an 11-year-old boy was arrested with weapons and ammunition in his possession, and now faces some serious charges. Thankfully, no one was hurt and now he’s being detained while his mental well-being is evaluated.

To help illustrate the chain of events that occurred that morning, we used a digital tool called Timeline.js from KnightLab, something I learned about recently at the Online News Association conference where about 1,400 journalists from around the globe met to help teach other how to best use technology to navigate the ever-changing media landscape.

I suspect we’ll be creating more of these to provide interactive features that help readers follow stories whether they’re breaking or slowly evolving over a longer period of time. We hope you’ll find them interesting and useful. Let us know what you think.
