Reports: Houston Rockets To Sign Center Josh Powell For Playoffs

UPDATE 9:17 PDT 4/16: Jonathan Feigan of the Houston Chronicle reports on twitter that the Rockets have made the Powell signing official.

Mark Berman of FOX 26 in Houston reports that the Houston Rockets will sign center Josh Powell before the playoffs.

Berman writes:

Center Josh Powell is in Houston on Tuesday for his physical and to sign with the Houston Rockets.

Sources told FOX 26 Sports Powell received his clearance from FIBA, world governing body for basketball, late Monday night to return to the NBA and sign with the Rockets.

Powell last played in the NBA in 2011 for the Atlanta Hawks and he was on the 2009 and 2010 NBA Championship Los Angeles Lakers teams.

Powell’s averaging 3.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and shooting 44% from the field in his NBA career.

Powell had been playing in the Philippines earlier this.

The Rockets had waived center Greg Smith last week to make room for former Miami Heat center Dexter Pittman but Jonathan Feigan of the Houston Chronicle reported on twitter last night that Pittman was waived.
