Blazers endorse same-sex marriage ballot measure
Denis C. Theriault of the Portland Mercury reports that the Portland Trail Blazers are the first NBA basketball team to publicly support a ballot initiative for same-sex marriage.
The areas two professional soccer teams, the Portland Timbers and the Thorns both showed there support and even made a video.
The Trail Blazers are now the biggest pro sports team, apparently the first from a big four pro league, to formally endorse a marriage equality ballot measure.
Michael Lewellen, a spokesman for the Blazers, gave this statement to the Mercury:
“The Portland Trail Blazers are in support of the Freedom to Marry and Religious Protection ballot initiative. We do so as believers in individual choice as a fundamental right of all people.”
